RASCI Responsibility Matrix

A method used to assign and display responsibilities of individuals or jobs (people) in a task (project, service or process) in the organization. RASCI (sometimes RASIC) is an acronym from the initial letters of words:

  • R - Responsible - who is responsible for carrying out the entrusted task?
  • A - Accountable (also Approver) - who is responsible for the whole task and who is responsible for what has been done?
  • S - Support - who provides support during the implementation of the activity / process / service?
  • C - Consulted - who can provide valuable advice or consultation for the task?
  • I - Informed - who should be informed about the task progress or the decisions in the task?

RASCI Chart

A RASCI chart is a matrix of all the activities or decision-making authorities undertaken in an organization set against all the people or roles.

Roles & Responsibilities Description

Server Gatekeepers

A UHCL point-of-contact for DataBank Hosted Server needs & requests.

Responsibilities:

  • UHCL representative.
  • Controls Hosted Server UHCL Admin account.
  • Engage with Vendor on behalf of UHCL to review and address any issue in regards to the Hosted Server or services running on the Hosted Server.

Server Maintenance

Server maintenance is process of keeping a server software updated and running so that a computer network can operate smoothly and avoid downtime or loss of data.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain server performance and patching.
  • Schedule and preforms OS updates and upgrades.
  • Monitor and report website performance.
    • Notify UHCL of critical issues.

Server Security

Server security focuses on the protection of data and resources held on the servers.

Responsibilities:

  • Configure/maintain server security.
  • Avoid/manage DOS attacks.
  • Configure/maintain server firewall.

DataBank Firewall

Access through DataBank Firewall to DataBank servers.

Responsibilities:

  • Configure/maintain DataBank Firewall security.

UHCL On-prem Firewall

Access through UHCL Firewall to DataBank Hosted site servers.

Responsibilities:

  • Configure/maintain UHCL On-prem Firewall security.

IIS

Internet Information Services (IIS) is a flexible, general-purpose web server from Microsoft that runs on Windows systems to serve requested HTML pages or files. An IIS web server accepts requests from remote client computers and returns the appropriate response.

Responsibilities:

  • Configure IIS on Hosted Server.
  • Maintains IIS on Hosted Server.

Server-side redirects

A server-side redirect is a forwarding method in which the server sends a 3xx HTTP status code when a URL is requested. The server determines what URL visitors and search engines should be sent to.

Responsibilities:

  • Configure server-side redirects on Hosted Server. 
    • Redirects typically configured within the web.config file.
  • Maintain server-side redirects on Hosted Server. 
  • Tracking of configured server-side redirects.

Backups

A backup of server data, file, application, and/or database. Vendor ability to recover server from backup as needed/required.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a current backup of server configuration and content for any restore needs.

DNS

The Domain Name System (DNS) is the hierarchical and decentralized naming system used to identify computers, services, and other resources reachable through the Internet or other Internet Protocol (IP) networks.

Responsibilities:

  • Configure DNS.
  • Maintain DNS.
  • Tracking of DNS configurations.

Load Balancer

A device that acts as a reverse proxy and distributes network or application traffic across a number of servers.

Responsibilities:

  • Configure Load Balancer.
  • Maintain Load Balancer.

Domain Controller

A domain controller is a type of computer server that responds to security authentication requests and verifies users on the domain of a computer network. The controller is a gatekeeper for allowing host access to domain resources. It also enforces security policies, stores a user’s account information, and authenticates users for a domain.

Responsibilities:

  • Configure Domain Controller.
  • Maintain Domain Controller.

Online Campus Directory

A searchable listing of UHCL Faculty and Staff that returns the following:

  • Name
  • E-mail
  • Phone
  • Job Title
  • Department      
  • Office Suite
  • Mailbox

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain Online Campus Directory

Web Page Authentication

Provides a setting to protect web pages behind a login to limit page access to either Faculty/Staff or Faculty/Stuff & Student UHCL accounts.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain code.

Self-submission Forms (retired)

Customized forms, created within the OMNI CMS, for use on UHCL website pages.

Responsibilities:

  • Retired: Functionality no longer in use for UHCL web site pages.

Omni CMS

Omni CMS is a web content management system provided by Modern Campus.

Responsibilities:

  • CMS functions as expected.
  • Address issues with CMS.

Website content

Web content is the textual, visual, or aural content that is encountered as part of the user experience on websites.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage content on the UHCL website.
  • Coordinate content creators.
